Work in progress: another few days before this painting gets a home. Hummus topped with minced meat and almonds, steaming hot felafel, a plate of luscious foul and tangy pickles on the side- what’s not to love! Sharjah has some wonderful old shops that serve a world of deliciousness in these little plates (they only look small, they hold quite a bit of everything!) Do try!!

What would you like to buy today? Plastic combs in green, blue or sunshine yellow? Or perhaps silky scrunchies- some in sets of three, some a 23 piece set and some perfectly happy on their own! Oh, Have you seen these shiny hair clips embellished with glitter and sequins? Or you just want a toy set, one that your child can hold while you shop for clothes and spices.

Rolls of velvet studded with flecks of gold. Silky, transparent reels of floral georgette. Polka dot showers on crepe and zebra stripes on sturdy cotton. You think of it, Rolla has it.

As children, many of our holiday mornings were spent taking a trip to Al Mallah (more like me tagging along whenever anybody stepped out. I was pretty much everywhere, from fruit/ vegetable shopping to hospital visits to clothes shopping- you name it!) relishing their savory spinach fatayer, cheese or zaatar manakish with home-made Nido tea. The taste, even today, is just as it used to be. This morning, I’ll be in the 90s, if you want to find me 🥰

The entire spread

My sriracha obsession began a few months back and I seriously considered using a gravy boat for it because it was just that necessary 😋A few months and no-gravy-boat later, here we are: with shelves of different (variations of chili) sauce- red, green, brown, yellow, orange, you name it! So I drew a spread with all my favorite sauces- maybe yours is in there too? Which ones do you like best?.
